Lakeshore Arts is bringing a new community arts celebration to Mimico this weekend with the first annual Mimico Arts Jam Festival on June 20th at the Amos Waites Park.

This free all-ages festival will feature a wide range of art activities, including poetry, punch needle and tufting, cyanotype and lumen printing, immersive walk-through experiences, collective banner-making, textile mapping, and community mural colouring. There will also be a screen-printing activity by donation, giving guests the chance to support Lakeshore Arts while taking home a unique design.

Presented under the theme “Welcome Home, Welcome Here,” Mimico Arts Jam will offer a full afternoon of free arts programming designed for people of all ages and abilities. Guests can take part in hands-on workshops, collaborative art projects, movement activities, music, and community storytelling throughout the day.
A highlight of the day will be the Mimico Arts Jam Pageant at 4:00 pm, featuring community members and participants from workshops led by Pushmakers, LAMP Among Friends, and Griggs Manor, with music led by Marching Disorder.
Guests can also enjoy live performances throughout the afternoon, including Dance Together Project, Juliet Jones-Rodney, and LSA’s Song Circle leaders. The festival will also feature roving performances by stiltwalker Sequoia Erickson, hooper Freeflow Visual Artistry, and clowns Andrew and Ruy.
To make the festival more accessible, Mimico Arts Jam will include a quiet hour from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with no stage performances. ASL interpretation will be available for stage performances, along with an access guide, foam earplugs at the info booth, and written instructions for art activities.
For those looking to enjoy a creative, family-friendly afternoon by the waterfront, Mimico Arts Jam offers a welcoming space to celebrate community, art, performance, and the many ways people define home.
