From its peacock-inspired design details to a menu rooted in family recipes and regional Indian flavours, Aangan Toronto is a polished celebration of food, culture, and gathering.
The Story Behind Aangan Toronto
For owner Tatoba, Aangan Toronto began with a clear vision: to open an upscale restaurant that showcases the cuisine of his home country, India, through a modern and elegant lens in Toronto.

When the opportunity arose, he and his friend and business partner, Abhishek Sharma, moved quickly to bring the concept to life. Having worked together in Toronto’s upscale restaurant scene, the two shared an understanding of refined hospitality, elevated service, and the level of detail needed to create a memorable dining experience.

At its core, Aangan Toronto is also a family-run business, shaped by a deep respect for culture, tradition, and the kind of food that brings people together. While the restaurant presents Indian cuisine with polish and contemporary technique, its foundation remains personal: a commitment to quality, warmth, and honest hospitality.

The name Aangan means “courtyard,” a reference to the open gathering spaces often found at the heart of Indian homes. That essence carries through the restaurant, from its design to its food and hospitality.

The Space
Inside Aangan Toronto, every design detail feels chic, intentional, and rooted in storytelling.

The space is rich with visual references to Indian culture, beginning with the peacock, India’s national bird, which appears throughout the restaurant’s design and is also incorporated into the logo. More than a decorative motif, the peacock serves as a symbol of beauty, elegance, and cultural pride.

At the entrance, guests are greeted by an art piece representing the 12 calendar months of the year, setting the tone for a restaurant where each detail carries meaning. That sense of storytelling continues throughout the space, from the textures and lighting to the way each room connects back to the larger concept.

The bar is designed to resemble an open cage, creating a striking architectural focal point while adding a sense of openness to the room. In the dining area, ceiling lights are designed to resemble jasmine flowers, a thoughtful nod to one of India’s most cherished floral symbols.

The restaurant also features a private dining space called The Mandala Room, designed for intimate celebrations, curated gatherings, and special occasions. Inspired by the symbolism of the mandala, the room adds a more immersive and personal layer to the dining experience.
The Food
The menu at Aangan Toronto is rooted in Indian tradition while presented through a refined, modern lens.

Personal standouts include the Chicken Koliwada, a flavourful coastal-inspired dish known for its bold seasoning and crisp texture, along with the Tandoori Lamb Chops, which are marinated for 48 hours before being cooked to bring out their tenderness and depth of flavour.

For those looking for something classic, the Butter Chicken offers a rich and comforting take on one of India’s most beloved dishes, best paired with the restaurant’s Butter Naan.

One of the most personal dishes on the menu is the Kombadi Wade Experience, inspired by a family recipe passed down from the owner’s mother. The dish carries a deeper sense of memory and tradition, with the owner’s mother helping guide the process and showing the team how it should be made. It is prepared with a blend of seven different flours, adding texture, depth, and a meaningful connection to home cooking.

For dessert, Ghewar-e-Awadh offers a regal finish to the meal, bringing together sweetness, texture, and presentation in a way that feels celebratory.

The beverage program also carries the same cultural intention. Aangan’s cocktails are inspired by Indian culture and railways, giving the drink menu its own sense of story, movement, and nostalgia.
Together, the menu reflects Aangan’s larger vision: honouring Indian tradition while presenting it with the polish and creativity of a modern Toronto dining room.
