June 21st to August 27th – Emancipation Art Exhibition by The Halton Black History Awareness Society
The Halton Black History Awareness Society’s Annual Emancipation Art exhibition is on view from June 25th – August 27th at the Helson Gallery in the Town of Halton Hills Cultural Centre. This vibrant exhibition features 14 artists showcasing their art in various media, exploring the meaning of “Freedom.” This exhibition aims to educate the public about black history and celebrate the freedom that came with Emancipation.

August 1st – HBHAS Emancipation Flag Raising Ceremony
The Emancipation Pan African Flag-Raising Ceremony celebrates the 1834 British Emancipation Act, which freed all colonial enslaved people through the Anti-Slavery Act of 1793. The Pan-African flag is representative of all blacks of African Ancestry.

June 24 – Safe Black Sis™
Hosted by Cupid’s Sting, a women’s safety non-profit whose mission is to teach women tools to prevent victimization, Safe Black Sis raises awareness and teaches self-defense practices to reduce and prevent victimization among Black-Identifying females. Safe Black Sis is part of the Province of Ontario’s Youth Wellness focus.
Event participants will be introduced to new physical activities that will challenge them physically and mentally and help decrease stress and anxiety. This event is restricted to Black-Identifying females 14-29 years of age.

June 24th – Day of Black Girl Magic

Founded in 2017 as one of Canada’s first cultural-specific farmers’ markets, Afro-Caribbean Farmers Market provides a platform for local black farmers, black food entrepreneurs, and black craft artisans to showcase their produce, products, and unique finds to community members and customers within Ontario.
Afro-Caribbean Farmers Market also offers food subsidies for low-income eaters through its farmers’ market currency, “Callaloo Cash.” Show your support for local black farmers, food entrepreneurs, and craft artisans at this jolly farmers’ market.

July 29th – Foodville Afro-Caribbean Food Festival
Organized by Private Cay and Black-Owned Toronto, Foodville Afro-Caribbean Food Festival celebrates all things African, Caribbean, and Afro-Latin foods, highlighting culinary delights and delicious bites of local and international Black-Owned restaurants and vendors. This festival will have activities for all ages: music, live performances, notable guest chefs, and 30 food and artisan vendors.
Prominent Afrobeats star and musician Nonso Amadi will headline this must-attend event, and Walshy Fire of Major Lazer will provide performances. The Toronto Raptors and Raptors 905 will set up a basketball court activation with skills challenges for attendees.

August 5th – Toronto Patty Fest
Toronto Patty Fest is the first of its kind within the city. Patty Lovers will converge in Little Jamaica, a neighborhood in Toronto’s west end, to celebrate this beloved Caribbean snack food on National Patty Day. There will be plenty of tasty patties from Jamician Patty Makers in the city’s first Jamaican Patty Festival.

July 11th to August 6th – Toronto Caribbean Carnival (August 5th – Grande Parade)
Toronto Caribbean Carnival is North America’s most significant cultural festival. It is a colorful celebration of Caribbean culture, dances, and food. This event features parades, parties, great food, mas bands, performances, and more. You do not want to miss this.
The Toronto Caribbean Carnival runs through July 11th (Official Launch Event), featuring various thrilling events in between, including the popular Grand Parade at the Exhibition Place and Lakeshore Blvd W. It concludes with Pan In D’Park at Malvern Park on August 6th.
