You will soon be able to experience the journey to the top of Mount Everest without leaving Toronto through a groundbreaking VR experience that brings the expedition to life

Opening November 10th, Everest: The First Ascent brings a 35-minute immersive VR experience that takes visitors into the historic 1953 expedition of Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay, and the Sherpa, from the streets of Kathmandu to the final push to the summit.
Follow the Journey to the Summit
The experience lets you explore the scale of Mount Everest and the determination behind its first successful ascent. Visitors will travel virtually from Kathmandu to high-altitude camps, across glaciers and towards the summit, following the expedition step by step.

Audiences are placed within immersive environments that bring the mountain and the expedition’s story into closer view. You’ll get a sense of the extreme cold, altitude and lack of oxygen the climbers faced as you journey across glaciers and towering icefalls.
Experience the fear, determination and solidarity that drove the team to the summit and made history.
Bringing Everest to Life Through VR
Co-produced by immersive entertainment specialists Eclipso and Small Creative, Everest: The First Ascent was created by Jean Dallac and Benjamin Auriche, with guidance from a scientific advisory board of Himalayan, mountaineering and cultural specialists.
The experience was also selected for Venice Immersive at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival in 2026, an international showcase of virtual reality, augmented reality and immersive works.
“Very few people will ever have the opportunity to experience Everest firsthand, and immersive technology offers a remarkable way to bring that journey to life,” says Antoine Lieutaud, Founder and CEO of Eclipso.
A New Way to Explore at Pocket Planet Canada
The launch adds a new experience to Pocket Planet Canada, where miniature worlds remain at the heart of the attraction.
With Everest: The First Ascent, visitors can go from viewing places in miniature to stepping inside a defining moment in exploration history. Suitable for ages 8 and up, the experience offers an outing for families, history enthusiasts, and adventure seekers curious about the people behind the expedition.
