Nia Centre for the Arts is bringing A Black Art Fair back to Toronto’s Little Jamaica on October 31st and November 1st, showcasing original works by more than 20 emerging and established Black Canadian artists.

Returning for its fourth year, the contemporary art fair will feature original artwork, sculpture, photography, and textiles, alongside interactive installations and conversations about creative process, curatorial care, and art stewardship.

This year’s theme, Evidence, positions contemporary Black art as undeniable proof of existence, craftsmanship and cultural authority. Responding to cultural erasure and historical revisionism, the theme explores how artistic practice preserves the stories, knowledge and experiences of Black communities.

“Our goal with ABAF is not only to showcase exceptional talent, but to demystify art collecting and create spaces for meaningful dialogue,” says Alica Hall, Executive Director at Nia Centre for the Arts. “Through our curated panels and exhibition programming, we are inviting the public to engage deeply with how Black art is valued and preserved.”
Hall will moderate two panel discussions that expand on these ideas throughout the weekend. Unearthing the Evidence: Retracing Black Existence Across Time takes place on Saturday, exploring how archives, oral traditions and community knowledge shape contemporary practice. On Sunday, A Beginner’s Guide to Art Collecting & Cultural Stewardship offers an accessible introduction to acquiring art and preserving cultural history. Both discussions run from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Whether you’re starting a collection, shopping for an original piece, or exploring Black Canadian art, the fair offers a chance to look closely, ask questions, and connect with the stories behind the work.
