This weekend, LunarFest GTA brings its vibrant Lunar New Year celebration to Unionville with two days of cultural programming, creative workshops, live performances, and family-friendly activities at the Varley Art Gallery on February 21st and 22nd

Designed for all ages, the free community festival invites guests to celebrate the Lunar New Year through art, music, storytelling, and hands-on experiences that highlight cultural connections and creativity.

What to Expect at LunarFest GTA
The two-day celebration features a diverse lineup of interactive workshops, performances, and artistic showcases, including. Highlights include:
Beginner Songwriting Workshop
Led by local artists Vicki Lovelee and Jacq Teh, this interactive session explores how music can act as a bridge between cultures and generations.Lunar New Year Crafting Workshop
Hosted by Fooderlon Theater, guests will work with natural materials and recycled objects, transforming the space into a playful environment where art, creativity, and sustainability meet.Lunar New Year Film Showcase: A Chip Odyssey
A compelling screening that traces Taiwan’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a critical pillar of the global digital world.Family-Friendly Programming
Including a puppet show and a storybook reading by talented author Joanne Kwok, perfect for younger audiences and families.Live Artist Performances
Featuring performances by Encello Toronto, a cello group and Tennyson King, Indie Folk Musician, adding music and energy to the celebration.
From February 21st to March 6th, the Varley Art Gallery will also host Lunar Lanterns, a Lunar New Year exhibition showcasing works by local and international artists from diverse backgrounds.

Visitors can explore stories of identity, heritage, and cultural connection through works by Philip Cote, Yasaman Mehrsa, Stephanie Avery, Jieun Kim (June), Keerat Kaur, and Taiwanese illustrator Zhou Jian-xin.
