$25,000 Grant Opportunity for Canadian organizations. Applications due by September 14th, 2023

The Government of Canada is offering grants of up to $25,000 to organizations that run programs that increase social inclusion and improve the quality of life of seniors in the community through its New Horizons for Seniors Program.

About the Program

The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is a federal grant that supports community-based projects/programs that are designed by seniors for seniors. This program funds projects that empower seniors in their communities and contribute to improving their health and well-being. Eligible organizations can apply for up to $25,000 for projects that are led by seniors and are volunteer based. The project must meet all project criteria and at least one of the following objectives.

CRITERIA

• Project must not be longer than 52 weeks

• Project requests no more than $25,000

• Project must meet at least 1 program objective

• Project seniors will lead or play a vital role in its planning and/or delivery

• Project must seek to benefit seniors and communities and demonstrate cost effectiveness

OBJECTIVES

• promoting volunteerism among seniors and other generations

• engaging seniors in the community through the mentoring of others

• expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse

• supporting the social participation and inclusion of seniors

• providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors

Special consideration will be given to project that meets the following priorities for seniors

• Supports healthy ageing

• Prevents senior abuse

• Celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion

• Supporting financial security

Available Funding

• $25,000 of Grant Funds to cover program costs and expenses.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

In order to apply, your organization must be

• a not-for-profit organization

• a municipality

• a provincial or territorial government, institution or Crown Corporation

• an Indigenous organization including:

  • band council

  • tribal council

  • self-government entity

• a coalition, network or committee

• a research organization or institute

• an educational institution

• a public health and social services institution

• a for-profit organization provided that the nature and intent of the activity is non-commercial and does not generate profit

The following organizations are eligible with the agreement of their provincial or territorial government:

• post-secondary institutions

• social service and public health institutions

• provincially/territorially funded institutions

For organizations with offices in multiple locations, each individual location is eligible to apply for funding. However, they must operate independently and have a separate governing structure. Organizations that do not operate independently may only receive a maximum amount of $25,000 for all locations.

Organizations can only submit 1 application per project. Multiple projects may not exceed a total of $25,000 per organization.
