With the upcoming Canadian census in May 2026, Statistics Canada has announced its plans to hire around 32,000 people across the country to support census operations.

These roles offer a paid opportunity for Canadians to contribute to an important national initiative while gaining short-term employment experience.
Who Can Apply
To be considered for the job, applicants must have reached the majority age in the current province or territory of residence (18 in Ontario), reside in Canada with a Canadian home address, and be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or possess a valid work permit.
Applicants can apply for either the enumerator role (non-supervisory) or the crew leader role (supervisory). The enumerator’s primary responsibility is to collect completed census questionnaires from households, while the crew leaders are to lead and supervise an assistant and a team of enumerators.
The Work, Pay, and Hiring Process
The pay for the enumerator role is $25.87 per hour, and for the crew leader role, $31.32 per hour. The employment period runs from March to July.
Applicants must complete an initial screening, a reference check, an interview (for crew leaders), and a security screening with the Statistics Canada team.
