This weekend, the internationally acclaimed dance drama Oriental Legend makes its long-awaited Canadian debut at the iconic Elgin Theatre in Toronto, with performances on December 12th and 13th.

Set in ancient China over 2000 years ago, this award-winning production blends dazzling choreography, cinematic stagecraft, and a soul-stirring narrative telling an epic story of courage, friendship, and unity through breathtaking performances. Toronto audiences will witness, firsthand, a seamless fusion of history, culture, movement, and emotion, brought to life by masterful dancers in stunning costumes at the historical theatre.

Oriental Legend Synopsis

Presented by the CPAA Productions Ltd., Oriental Legend is set in the ancient Silk Road city of Jingjue. The story follows Feng, a border general of the Han Dynasty; Jian Te, the son of a northern chieftain; and Chun Jun, the daughter of Jingjue’s ruler, move from confrontation to camaraderie, transforming from adversaries into allies and ultimately into lifelong kindred spirits.

Oriental Legend is more than a dance drama; it’s a poetic archaeological journey brought to life through movement, music, and spectacle. At its heart is a miraculous artifact: a Han Dynasty brocade armguard, excavated along the ancient Silk Road in Xinjiang – Shy Huang (Secretary General of the Canada China Cultural Development Association)

Their journey unfolds through mesmerizing dance sequences that transcend language and time, celebrating humanity’s enduring quest for peace and understanding. Infused with the grace of Han-Tang classical dance and the vibrant energy of Western Regions-inspired “Lantern Dance,” the production is a visual feast that captures the splendor of China’s ancient civilizations while embracing the spirit of multicultural artistry.
