Presented by TD Bank Group, Harbourfront Centre’s KUUMBA Festival is Toronto’s largest and longest-running Black Futures Month Festival.
Guided by the unifying theme Sounds of Blackness, KUUMBA 2026 will feature a vibrant lineup of programming spanning music, literature, dance, theatre, wellness, family-friendly events, and masterclasses, amplifying the voices of Afro-Caribbean and Canadian artists and thought leaders to create a powerful platform for reflection, celebration, and future-focused dialogue.

Runs through February – Black History Month Jazz Series by The Pilot
This year, Toronto Dinner, the Pilot celebrates its 4th Black History Month with performances from Black-led jazz groups. In addition, there will be poetry, DJ’s, and a history presentation on the stories of Black Canadian artists.

Toronto Public Library celebrates Black History Month with events including workshops, talks, story times, and interactive activities.

Runs through February – Black History Month: Print Mary Ann Shadd Cary’s Newspaper
Mackenzie House Museum brings history back to life with a printshop during Black History Month. Print a copy of The Provincial Freeman, the newspaper edited by Mary Ann Shadd Cary, the first Black woman publisher in Canada, using an original 1840s printing press. Take home a printed keepsake while exploring how print media supported 19th-century activism, civic engagement, and community organizing through one of the most significant Black newspapers in Canadian history.

February 5th – Black History Month Showcase
The Canada Black Music Archives showcases Toronto’s premium soul and R&B artists with a free musical showcase, the special programming features veteran and emerging Black Canadian musicians, including Jully Black, Liberty Silver, Divine Brown, Dru Grange, and Tanika Charles set to perform, with mixes by DJ Carl Allen and hosted by Mel Boogie

Contemporary Visual Artist, Chika Oh, hosts a Solo Gallery Exhibit featuring original works exploring memory, silence, and embodied truth. February 6th – ROOTS & RHYTHM — A Black History Month Culinary Experience

February 7th – We Were Here – The Untold Story of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe
Join Afro-Italian filmmaker and artist Fred Kudjo Kuwornu for the Toronto premiere of the documentary We Were Here, which unveils the untold history – through iconic artworks – of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe. This multilingual film, shot across Europe, challenges the notion that all Black people during Europe’s Renaissance were enslaved people or servants, revealing a diverse presence from royalty to merchants to religious figures.

February 7th – Black History Exhibition Tour
Bata Shoe Museum hosts a special tour of its exhibitions, focusing on the contributions of Black artists, workers, and diasporic communities to culture through footwear.

February 7th – Black History Month Nature Walk
Black Canadian Hikers hosts a Black History Month Nature Walk taking attendees through the Humber River valley to learn about Black Canadian history while enjoying the beauty of winter.

February 7th – When Brothers & Sisters Speak
An evening of unapologetic, uncensored Black brilliance through the spoken word. Featuring local and international guest poets. For the first time, curator and producer Dwayne Morgan merges his two signature events into one captivating evening.

February 15th – Underground Comedy Railroad

February 14th – 2nd Annual Canadian Black Screen Awards 2026
Black Actors & Film Guild Canada hosts their 2nd Annual Canadian Black Screen Award, a premier event that brings together industry professionals, creatives, and thought leaders to celebrate Black excellence in film and entertainment. The event will feature insightful panels, networking opportunities, and workshops, while the CBS Awards 2025 will honor outstanding achievements across various categories, recognizing the contributions of Black filmmakers, actors, and creatives in Canada.

February 20th – A Day of Black Excellence by Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce

February 27th – 2026 Skates & Sounds (Black History Month Tribute)
Every Friday night in February, the Barbara Ann Scott Ice Trail in College Park transforms into an open-air dance floor, blending music, skating, and winter vibes in the heart of downtown Toronto. On February 27th, the night will spotlight Black musical excellence, past and present, through a curated DJ set that celebrates legacy, creativity, and culture.

February 27th – Racine Supper Club

February 22nd – Black In Nature Poetry Walk Series 1
Black Canadian Hikers hosts a series through the woods of the Don River and Humber River in Toronto. Join Black Canadian Hikers and Hoodman2Manhood for an immersive experience of walking through nature and writing poetry as a creative outlet. You can find more information about the walks here.

February 28th – BLACK GRAPES Wine Tasting
Spice Food & Wine Group hosts a Black History Month Celebration wine tasting, celebrating Black winemakers, grape growers, and agents from around the world.
