Toronto Mendelssohn Choir graces the stage to exhilarate Toronto audiences this March
Led by maestroย Jean-Sรฉbastien Vallรฉe, the Toronto Mendelssohn Singers grace the stage again following their lauded debut season last year.ย

With Winterreise, they bring their signature artistry to one of Schubert’s most beloved compositions. The TMSingers present a fresh adaptation of Schubert’s work, skillfully arranged for choir, baritone, and piano by composer Gregor Meyer in 2017.ย

Set against the backdrop ofย Wilhelm Mรผller‘s poignant poetry, Winterreise recounts the tale of a wanderer’s heartache and desolation amidst a wintry landscape, with the choir serving as a powerful vessel to amplify the emotional depth of the narrative. The ensemble is joined by renowned Canadian baritoneย Brett Polegatoย and Juno Award-winning pianistย Philip Chiuย for this moving interpretation. The program is rounded out by works ofย Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, one of the first published female composers, andย Clara Schumann, widely regarded as one of the most significant composers and pianists of the Romantic era. These works, intertwined with the thematic elements of “Winterreise,” offer meditations on themes of love and loss.ย
